Where the book catalog comes from

When you search for a book, Lecturameter first checks its own catalog: a database of about 37,500 works, with their authors and editions, built only from open sources, mainly Wikidata and Open Library. If a book is not there, the app asks Google Books, Open Library and other public catalogs.

• Open sources only. Data that can be legally reused. No dumps from pirate sites.
• Your library stays on your phone. The catalog runs on Lecturameter's own server on Cloudflare, and the app only sends it the text you search for or the ISBN you scan.
• It learns from what's missing. If a search finds nothing, that text or ISBN is kept, with no identifier, so the missing works can be added.
• Offline too. The app ships with a local catalog of about 12,000 works so you can search without internet.
• Manga and comics. For these, the app also queries specialized public databases such as MangaUpdates, AniList and Kitsu.
